GTR honored our Everyday Superheroes at the Change Awards on Saturday, November 5, 2016. Presented by Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, it was an out of this world celebration with cocktails in the Rocket Garden and a previewing of the new Legends & Heroes exhibit.
Over 350 people attended the formal event where businesses, organizations, and individuals were recognized as Change makers of North Brevard. Modeled after the Academy Awards' Oscars, our Change makers were presented a custom-designed 3-D printed Osprey Award.
The Osprey, almost extinct in the 1950's, has made an impressive comeback. Revered for its fierce loyalty, lifelong mating habits and deft hunting skills, the bird is perceived as a symbol of strength and valor. Tim Reynolds, of Wild Manta, and Mike McBride, of McBride Marketing Group, partnered to design a concept that would caputre the extraordinary attributes of this magnificent symbol.
Artist Seth Carswell, Vessel Good Leather Company, put the "pencil to the paper" so to speak, to bring this vision alive in 3-D. Designed and produced here, the Osprey Award is a fine example of Made in Brevard, a joint effort of the EDC of Florida's Space Coast and our Chamber of Commerce, which helps promote the products and technologies of our more than 500 manufacturers.
Emceed by Chris Laping with "People Before Things", the event came to life in the Rocket Garden at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex where we celebrated our community heroes from Robin Fisher and Jim Tulley to leaders, activists, business owners and residents who lead the efforts to usher in sweeping change, making a significant economic impact throughout North Brevard. Special thank you to Event Co-Chairs, Holly Carver and Marcia Newell.
